A Glimpse Into YouthListener

Our Story

Youth Listener is a free, 24/7, confidential emotional support service created to help bridge gaps in support for young people struggling with abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, and other emotional problems. 

Youth Listener was created to help people with limited resources gain access to emotional support that may be inaccessible or expensive like conventional therapy. We offer a safe space where visitors can connect, share stories, and learn best practices for taking care of and improving their mental health. Our approach to peer counselling is to connect users with a highly trained volunteer who is ready to provide a listening ear to someone in need at any time and from any location.

It shouldn’t be hard for people to access emotional support.

Yet conventional therapy is often unavailable or unaffordable to a majority of people worldwide, shutting out those who lack the resources to receive emotional help.

Executive Board Members

  • The mental health stigma is what I am trying to fight. Therapy should be normalised, yet not everybody has access.

    After realizing that many Indonesian youths struggle to openly express issues they face due to the stigma associated with mental illnesses, I founded The Youth Listener, a platform and "safe space" for young people all over the world to remain anonymous while discussing their mental struggles, including through free interactions with counsellors trained by us. Our central message is that everyone should have access to free emotional assistance, and we believe that listening can change lives.

    Youth Listener is constantly breaking linguistic, regional as well as cultural barriers in order to provide emotional support to those in need.

    I've had the honor of assisting YL in their recruitment process and am continually in awe of what this platform has done and what I'm sure it will do. YL has given me the opportunity to put my skills to test, make mistakes, learn from them and ultimately do my best to support those around me and for that I am eternally grateful.

    The moment I joined Youth Listener as an FB Manager (now an Operational Assistant), I knew that I will be able to help a lot of people by giving my time to helping listeners who gives their services. I admit that I used the platform and you will really see that the whole YL team is there to support and encourage you! YL is a great way to hone your interpersonal skills and it is also a great way to learn more about yourself and the community around you. Social Media

  • Youth Listener has been a safe space to learn and to grow. I started out as a volunteer back in 2020 and the sense of helping others and of providing emotional support has been one of the happiest things I've ever experienced.

    Over time, I was appointed as the Social Media Manager after my internship work and I couldnt be any more happy that I've been creating content that reaches out to so many people, inspires so many hearts.

    Sometimes, we're have a bad day, and all we need is a reminder that things are going to be okay. Or just a place to vent and feel validated. Youth Listener has been that reminder for so many people around the world.

    Youth Listener has been a beautiful space of accepting people's emotions and accepting every person for who they are. I'm grateful I get to be a part of a community as empathetic and thoughtful as this one.

Community Outreach Team

  • I’ve had a lot of fun working with my co-mates in the community outreach team. It has been an amazing experience where we’d come together and plan workshops. I’ve observed personal growth in terms of conducting activities and interacting with the fellow listeners.

    With the pandemic, I had developed social anxiety and with this opportunity, I have been able to overcome some fear. Small steps to creating many memories in this safe space.
